Winnipeg, MB – Sheena Legrand's third single, 'Half Way', from her upcoming album 'Back To Life', is set to be released on April 11, 2025. The song, a delicate yet powerful reflection on the complexities of physical and emotional healing, is not just an angsty artistic expression—it’s an invitation into the heart of a deeply personal and transformative journey.
It’s been nearly eight years since Sheena and legendary producer David Kalmusky first sat down in his Nashville studio to co-create 'Half Way', a song that began in the quiet of an early March morning. Sparked by an unspoken understanding and a shared belief in the power of expression, in Sheena’s own words, the song was born of “…a fear of helplessness itself, and an unshakable numbness anticipating a life half lived." But it was also revealing a deeper knowing - that music, particularly songwriting, can serve as a vehicle for healing, catharsis, and connection.
“I wasn’t ready to invite the world into my process back then”, Sheena admits, reflecting on why she hesitated to release the song all those years ago. “It’s vulnerable to admit our fears… and for some of us, even more vulnerable to express our anger or sadness. But it’s an important part of moving through it. As songwriters, we have this valuable gift—to express what can't easily be put into words, and to give voice to our lived experience.”
'Half Way' speaks to the struggle many face when navigating their own pain and limitations, a universal theme often at the root of our inner explorations. The juxtaposition of her emotional rawness and the intensity of the musical composition is where the song’s true impact lies. Sheena, who has spent the last decade intently building a coaching practice infused with the foundations of her musical background, now recognizes how important it is for us to honour our emotions—not just for our personal growth but for our collective healing.
“I believe that unspoken truths and repressed creative expression contribute to illness in the body”, Sheena shares. “For me, songwriting has been a crucial part of my health journey. It’s how I learned to give my feelings space to breathe, and how I found the courage to continue moving forward.”
The song-write with Kalmusky, who is well-known for his remarkable success in the music industry, including more than a dozen Billboard #1 hits, was the spark that lit the fire of Sheena's rekindled ambition. “When David reached out expressing interest in my recovery journey and inviting a creative collaboration, it ignited a sincere friendship. It became clear that this was about more than making music—it was about sharing from the heart and creating something that could support others through their healing too.”
As Sheena prepares to share ‘Half Way’ with the world, she invites listeners into the sacred space of vulnerability she has long held. It's more than just a song - it’s a mirror for those who have fought their own battles, those who have been held back by fear, and those who long to heal through heart-felt expression.
“Songwriting is a time-honoured tradition that connects us with the wisdom of our ancestors, and invokes our higher consciousness. It’s a way to express parts of ourselves that often go unspoken. It can uplift and inspire, bring understanding and resonance. It can help free the little voice inside, so we don't bury it in silence.” Sheena concludes, “If I can help someone find their own voice or hold space for them to express what they've been carrying, then I know this song and my own journey will have served its purpose.”
